The Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coins celebrate the leadership and cultural impact of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. This limited-edition project reflects a deep commitment to preserving Ghana’s heritage.

A Vision Beyond the Otumfuo Gold Coins

Proceeds from the coin sales will fund a new Cultural Resource Centre in Kumasi. This centre will use modern technologies to showcase Ghana’s traditional conflict resolution and peacebuilding strategies. Importantly, it will preserve Asante customs and educate future generations.

Crafted with Symbolism and Precision

Gold Coast Refinery minted the coins using 99.99% pure 24-carat gold. The Bank of Ghana authorized this unique project, making it a national milestone. Each coin weighs 31.104 grams and measures 37mm in diameter.

One side displays Otumfuo’s image with Adinkra symbols – Bi Nka Bi and Mpatapo – which stand for peace and harmony. The other side features the Golden Stool (Sika Dwa), the sacred symbol of Asante unity.

Celebrated at the National Level

Over 600 dignitaries, including Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, attended the launch. During the event, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, praised Otumfuo’s role in national peacekeeping and development.

“The coin symbolizes peace, unity, and your Majesty’s remarkable legacy,” Dr. Addison said.

The Bank clarified that although the coin holds no monetary value, it serves as a cultural treasure rather than a legal tender.

Backed by Trusted Institutions

The launch was led by E ON 3 Group in collaboration with PMMC, Access Bank, and the Manhyia Palace. Other partners include Coronation Insurance and the KGL Group.

The preceeding week, organizers will present coins to key national figures like President Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Bawumia, Sir Sam Jonah, and others.
